Hi,
It depends. I mainly work from 7.30 to 5 Monday to Friday but I sometime need to work at night or at weekend but then can take some days off. I decide I many hours I want to work which is great and my boss doesn’t mind as long as the work is done.
lots, I find im doing some work most evenings and weekends.
working at the uni gives you lots of flexibility so you can kind of come and go as you want. on an average week I would say about 50 hours
I’m supposed to do at least 37 hours a week, but I usually do more.
My hours vary according to what’s needed (or what I want to do!). If I’m writing or stuck in the office doing less interesting stuff, then I spend less time at work. If I’m doing lab work and really want the answer then I’ll be in for as long as I can (including weekends and evenings sometimes).
Having a family though, means I don’t work as long hours as I used to as a PhD student.
Answering these questions is currently increasing my working hours!
Like others have said, university life gives you a lot of flexibility, you tend to work often during evenings and weekends, but having a family forces you back to more sensible hours. Today I’ve spent several hours building a model four stroke combustion engine with my daughter that she got for her birthday, which was great. I’m lecturing at 9.00 tomorrow – I’m intending to tell my students about it!
