@unicorn9. In answer to this, you might like to Google “William Buckland”, who aimed to eat a sample of every animal in existence. Unfortunately I haven’t been able to find out how many that added up to!
McGee notes “Our species eats just about anything that moves, from insects and snails to horses and whales” but also notes “Paradoxically, meat is also the most widely avoided of major foods.” Of the wide variety of animals in the world, our meat eating now is dominated by cows, sheep, pigs, poultry and fish.
Of course, I must acknowledge the recent horsemeat issue with a couple of jokes:
“I’ve just checked the Tesco burgers in my freezer … AND THEY’RE OFF”
Tesco now forced to deny presence of zebra in burgers, as shoppers confuse barcodes for serving suggestions.
A woman has been taken into hospital after eating horse meat burgers from Tesco.
Her condition is said to be stable
Hi Unicorn9,
In term of milk and cheese production the animal used are mainly cows, goats, sheep and buffalo. However, donkeys, horses, reindeer and camels are also used! Most domestic animals have been tried to produce milk and cheese but some milk does not coagulate so is not use for cheese production or the quantity of milk produce is too low to be of interest (e.g. cat, dog or even pigs). Compared to meat it is difficult to use the milk from wild animal as you need to be able to milked them easily!
Just thinking of milking a cat or dog?
that would be a bit of a task. Interesting to see weather it tasted the same as cow milk or goat milk. It might have its own unique, unusual taste. would be interesting to find out.
