If the burger contained horse meat then you probably would react. People with severe allergic reactions can react to a quantity that is even smaller than a speck – often you can’t even see it. I used to look after all the gluten and dairy free products at Sainsburys and we had to make sure there wasn’t even a tiny bit of these allergens in the foods. However, having said that I have never heard of anyone who is allergic to horsemeat.

Rachel’s answer is a good one. People can be allergic to almost any food component, and a few people are allergic to beef, so it is possible that there are some people who are allergic to horse meat. If you ate a burger containing horse meat and you were allergic to horse then you might react. Different people with the same allergy will react to different amounts of the thing they are allergic to and this amount will vary according to the type of food it is in. But as Rachel says it can be a very very small amount that causes a reaction.
